Beachwood, OH, April 27, 2016, Lawrence Singerman, Founder at Retina Associates of Cleveland, Inc., has been recognized by Elite American Physicians, for dedication, achievement and leadership in ophthalmology.
Dr. Singerman has owned and practiced at his ophthalmology practice for almost as long as he has been providing eye care services. With 46 years of industry experience, he has tended to patients and oversees his office for 42 of those years. For nearly five decades, Dr. Singerman has performed eye examinations, diagnosed retinal problems and macular degeneration, ran clinical trials, and overseen 11 retina physicians and an additional 125 employees. He directs a team of clinical trial personnel, along with five physician assistants and 12 ophthalmic photographers.
Demonstrating his importance to the ophthalmology community, Dr. Singerman has participated as a principal investigator in 125 clinical trials on diabetic retinopathy. He is considered a leading figure in the research for age-related macular degeneration, and his work has led to new drugs approved the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He has contributed to the diabetic retinopathy studies since the original study sanctioned by Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami and Case Western Reserve University. In addition to his practice and clinical participation, he is a clinical professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Singerman got his start in the field with a bachelor’s degree from Case Western University in 1965. He continued to earn a master’s degree at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1969. From there he completed a residency and fellowship, the residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center and a fellowship in retinal surgery at John Hopkins University. He is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology. In addition, he is the founder and executive secretary of The Macular Society. He maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, former vice chair and president of the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland, the American Diabetes Association, the American Medical Association, ASRS, Retina Society and Club Jules Gonin. He is the former president of the Ohio Ophthalmological Society and the Cleveland Ophthalmological Society. Additionally, he is a fellow of the International College of Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine.
