The most gratifying aspect of Dr. Hughes’ career thus far is working in her current position. She enjoys utilizing her skills and knowledge as the lab director of Rankin Laboratories, which offers anatomic pathology and clinical laboratory services. Dr. Hughes became involved in the field because of her consistent and genuine interest in medicine. Since the beginning of her career, Dr. Hughes has received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to the health care industry. She won America’s Top Pathologist Award in 2009 and American Top Physician in 2006. Dr. Hughes also received the Secretary’s Hero Award for her service during Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Hughes earned an MD from the University of Mississippi State Medical Center in 1993, and a Bachelor of Science in biology, with a minor in mathematics, from the University of Mississippi in 1989. She is currently affiliated with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the College of American Pathologists. Dr. Hughes is a Prior Compliance Advisory Board Member with the Executive Committee for Operations, VA.

Outside of her position with Rankin Laboratories, Dr. Hughes is also charitably involved with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Cancer Society and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In her spare time, she can be found gardening, horseback riding or spending time with her two children. Dr. Hughes attributes her ongoing success to hard work and dedication, and has no plans to slow down in the near future.
