For 38 years, Dr. Brandes has worked in the field of science and research for multiple sclerosis. Fascinated by the brain’s functions and disorders, hehas participated in a variety of research projects, including immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory treatments, beta-interferon titration studies, medication adherence and cerebrospinal fluid analysis in multiple scleroris. Additionally, he has done research in stroke, Huntington’s disease, neuropathic pan, sleep disorders and other neurological conditions. A highly regarded and respected professional, he also gives many presentations on multiple sclerosis to national and international audiences, where he educates both health care providers and patients.
To support his career and stay at the edge of the latest medical developments, Dr. Brandes affiliates with the American Academy of Neurology, the stroke council of the American Heart Association and the mid-south chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. His experience is backed by his education, which includes a Bachelor of Science, a master’s degree in biochemisty from UCLA and an MD from UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Brandes completed a neurology fellowship in multiple sclerosis at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System followed by an internship in medicine at the same facility. He continues to take neurology studies to stay abreast of the latest teachings. In the years ahead, Dr. Brandes plans to continue to do research and speak on multiple sclerosis.
