Princeton, NJ, May 7, 2014, Louis E. Baxter Sr., MD, FASAM, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Executive Medical Director for the Professional Assistance Program of New Jersey, has been recognized by Elite American Physicians for dedication, achievements and leadership in patient care.

Dr. Baxter has been in the health care industry for 35 years and is a leader in the field of addiction medicine. He often speaks on the subject and was honored to give an address on addiction and addiction treatment to the House of Lords in Parliament in London on May 13, 2009. Dr. Baxter has also published his work, including a chapter in a textbook for the American College of Legal Medicine

For the past 25 years, Dr. Baxter has lent his talents to the Professional Assistance Program of New Jersey, a nonprofit organization that provides services to ensure public safety and welfare. The program has a national reputation and many other programs across the country have emulated the program by incorporating its practices and ideals. In his role, Dr. Baxter is responsible for directing patient care, diagnosing health care professionals with impaired conditions, and establishing treatment plans. Aside from his work with the organization, Dr. Baxter is also a consultant for the National Football League and the National Basketball Association. He attributes all the success he has experienced to his hard work and honesty.

Dr. Baxter completed a fellowship in addiction medicine at Portsmouth Hospital and his residency in internal medicine at Cooper University Hospital. He earned an MD at Temple University School of Medicine, a Bachelor of Arts in history, with a concentration in American Civilization, and a Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Baxter is also board certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine and American Society of Addiction Medicine, is a Certified Medical Review Officer, and National Board Diplomat.
