John R. Hubbard, Ph.D., M.D. is a Psychiatrist for Alabama Psychiatric Services, a group private mental health practice based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. With a sophisticated background in psychiatry, addiction, stress, writing, medical and scientific research, and teaching, Dr. Hubbard facilitates operations at the practice by caring for patients with psychiatric illnesses or chemical dependency problems. He became involved in his profession after gaining experience as a professor of biochemistry. He decided to earn an M.D. so that he could care for patients, as well as continue his research and teaching with greater medical understanding; he chose to specialize in psychiatry owing to his fascination with the human brain, psychiatric illnesses, addiction problems, human behavior and human potential. Dr. Hubbard has published a number of books on psychiatry, addiction, stress, endocrinology, motivation, and personal growth. Six of these titles are texts for medical professionals, while the others are for the general public. These include “Great Life Choices for Teens” and “Earl’s Pearls: Enjoying Excellence.” Dr. Hubbard has also published more than 70 articles, reviews and book chapters. He has worked directly with professional athletes in the NFL Substance Abuse Program, and was formerly a professor at the Medical College of Virginia (now VCU Medical Center), Harvard Medical School, University of Virginia School of Medicine, and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Hubbard was named a Professional of the Year by Cambridge Who’s Who, and the Consumer’s Research Council of America named him the Top American Psychiatrist for 2010-2011.
