CINCINNATI, OH, April 30, 2012, Evelyn V. Hess, MD, MACP, MACR, Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, has been recognized by Elite American Physicians for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical education and research.
Dr. Evelyn Hess has built an illustrious career as a researcher and educator on topics related to lupus. She has refined a skill set that allows her to conduct research which contributes to the enhancement medical field and henceforth helps people with lupus to look forward to a bright future. She currently studies the environmental aspects of lupus and speaks at various professional meetings on an annual basis. She publishes papers and chapters, teaches medical students, works with lupus patients, and works on clinical research projects. Dr. Hess received a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery, and went on to earn an MD in internal medicine and rheumatology from the National University of Ireland. She completed a residency in chest diseases from Clare Hall Hospital in London, and earned a medical license from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates in the State of Ohio. She also holds a Certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. A combination of her years of hard work and passion for her research and teaching efforts has led her down a road to success. She has received a number of awards throughout her career, and she continues to strive for excellence as a medical educator and researcher.
Dr. Hess has received a number of accolades throughout her career, which have included a National Volunteer Service Citation and a Distinguished Service Award from the Arthritis Foundation, an Award from the American Lupus Society, a Best Speaker Award from the University Medical Society, an Award for Excellence in Teaching from the American Academy of Family Practice, and a National Award for Distinguished Service from the Arthritis Foundation. She received an Honorary MD from University del Nord in Columbia, SC, an Award for Excellence from the Arthritis Foundation, an Oscar Schmidt Award for Public Service from the University of Cincinnati, recognition as an Outstanding Woman of Cincinnati, the Director’s AIDS Service Award, as granted by the University of Cincinnati, and the Arthritis Foundation Award of Excellence. She also received the Spirit of American Women Award from JC Penney Co., a Leadership Award from the Greater Cincinnati AIDS Task Force, an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Academy of Medicine, induction into the National Hall of Fame for the American Lupus Society, and an Achievement Award from University of Cincinnati. Dr. Hess’ additional honors include the Master Teacher Award, as granted by the American College of Physicians, the Distinguished Rheumatologist Award, as granted by the American College of Rheumatology, an Award for Outstanding Medical Service from the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., recognition as Woman of the Year 1999 by the Cincinnati Enquirer, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and the Daniel Drake Medal from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. She has also been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from SUMMA, the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc., a Gold Medal (twice) from the Pan American League of Associations for Rheumatology, a Local Legend Award from the American Medical Women’s Association, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. She has received the Master Teacher Award from the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, an Award for Lifelong Contributions to Arthritis from the National Arthritis Foundation, a listing in the Guide to America’s Top Physicians, and recognition as a Leading Woman in Technology/Science and Research by the Leading Women of Cincinnati, Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
