Dr. Velasco became involved in her profession because it has long been a desire of hers to work in the medical field. She started volunteering in hospitals at age 14 through the influence of her father, who was a doctor and biochemist. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from New York University, and a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from New York College of Podiatric Medicine, and she completed a residency in Podiatric Surgery at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. She is currently on the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
