Clinton, Mississippi | November 12, 2010 | C. David Finch Jr., MD, Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Science Officer of ProviFlo, LLC, has been recognized by Elite American Physicians for his dedication, achievements and leadership in innovative medical solutions.
With expertise in dialysis technology and vascular access, Dr. Finch manages operations at ProviFlo, LLC. Providing medical devices for dialysis patients, Dr. Finch and his associates, Dr. Hendrik K. Kuiper and Mr. Jeffrey H. Burbank, hold patents for the LifeSite Hemodialysis Access System, which presents an alternative to current access techniques in treating chronic renal patients. The LifeSite Hemodialysis Access System, a system Dr. Finch developed, furnishes fully-implantable blood access for patients who require hemodialysis while waiting for creation and maturation of a permanent access. In April 1996, Dr. Finch, Dr. Kuiper and Mr. Burbank founded Vasca, Inc., which marketed the LifeSite Hemodialysis System. Dr. Finch and Mr. Burbank also founded a company called NxStage, which created the first workable portable hemodialysis system. It is now traded publicly on NASDAQ and continues to make great strides in developing portable and user-friendly dialysis equipment. ProviFlo continues to work on novel vascular access and infection control technologies, including broadly antimicrobial substances to complement the subcutaneous port system including antimicrobial lock solutions and polymer materials. The new technology of ProviFlo is making improvements in product design and infection control with products similar to the LifeSite Hemodialysis Access System.
With over 27 years of professional experience, Dr. Finch attributes his success to his unwillingness to give up. His greatest reward is positively affecting a person’s life with the work he has dedicated his career to. After 17 years as a nephrologist, Dr. Finch recognized a need for a portable dialysis device and advises that others should “think outside the box” to achieve success. His work has brought relief to many patients and he enjoys receiving letters from former patients who have recovered because of his devices.
Dr. Finch earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at Mississippi College in 1980 and a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1984. He completed a fellowship in cardiology in 1985, his residency in internal medicine in 1988, and a fellowship in nephrology in 1990 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is honored to have been a diplomat for the American Society of Nephrology in 1990 and a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1988. He also retains affiliations with the Christian Medical & Dental Associations, the American College of Physicians, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the International Society of Nephrology. He has received various honors for his dedication including, Great Minds of the 21st Century Award, Distinguished Biology Alumnus of the Year Award from Mississippi College, and the Engineering and Design Excellence Award.
